SARAJEVO, 25. MAR. 2016 – High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Valentin Inzko has called on the Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities to refrain from politicizing and distorting the importance of the Hague-based tribunal’s verdict to former Republika Srpska (RS) president Radovan Karadzic. Inzko, according to a statement from the Office of the High Representative, said that 20 years after the war, politicians should look forward and focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euratlantic future, noting that guilt and also innocence, is not collective but individual. OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina Head Jonathan Moore said that the pursuit of justice did not leave anyone indifferent and that it could be a long, complicated and controversial process. “More than 20 years later, it is extremely important that all war criminals are brought to justice. It is necessary for the building of lasting peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Moore said. The U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo has said it believes that the Hague-tribunal’s verdict to first Republika Srpska (RS) president Radovan Karadzic is an important step toward establishing the accountability of individuals for the horrible suffering of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Embassy called on all sides to accept the verdict and again focus on a continued engagement in a reconciliation effort and peaceful life which are necessary for the future of a stable and safe Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the rights of all its citizens are protected.
