BANJA LUKA, 13. JUL 2016 – The ruling coalition in Bosnian entity Republika Srpska (RS), headed by the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, adopted the initiative for the referendum on the Day of RS, to be held on Sept. 25. “We have formulated and moved on the initiative before the Assembly of RS, and it is now in procedure,” RS President Milorad Dodik told reporters in Banjaluka, adding that he believed the issue would be finalized by July 15. Dodik also said that, nor had RS given up on the referendum regarding the work of the Court and Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina. “We have not given up on the referendum. We are waiting and giving a chance at the collegium, to see who is in favor and who, and why, is against certain dates,” he said. The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has decided that marking the Day of RS is discriminating against the RS citizens who are not Serbs, because that is also when the patron saint’s day of RS, the Holy Archdeacon Stefan, is celebrated. RS was ordered to set another day for marking the Day of RS, but the representatives of the Serbian political parties will not give up on marking the Day of RS on Jan. 9, because the republic of the Serbian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was later renamed Republika Srpska, was formed on that day in 1992.
