EU’S WIGEMARK: LIST OF THOSE WHO POSE A THREAT TO BOSNIA’S SOVEREIGNTY

SARAJEVO, 02. FEB. 2017 – The chief of the European Union’s Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, has stated that a list could be made of people in Bosnia and Herzegovina who pose a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia, but that it was not up to the international community to introduce sanctions. I could make you a list today of people whom I believe to be a threat to the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina – people who talk about the creation of new entities and say that Bosnia is not relevant as a country – those are all threats to sovereignty and territorial integrity, Wigemark told the Nezavisne Novine daily from Banjaluka. He said that international sanctions were not the solution and that this could only be found through internal consensus, because Dayton created a system based on consensus. Whether someone likes it or not, that is the system in which the three constitutive nations find a common denominator, said the chief of the EU Delegation in Bosnia. Wigemark said that the EU had been informed about the U.S. thinking about imposing sanctions on RS President Milorad Dodik, but it was not included in that process. He added that it was still possible for the EU to impose sanctions against persons who violate the Dayton agreement, but that the EU would rather see those issues, as all the other issues, solved within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
